The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 is Xiaomi’s 2020 upgrade to the previous M365 Pro electric scooter. This nomenclature change goes without explanation on why Xiaomi decided to pick a more straightforward name and a less confusing title.

This electric scooter is an obvious step up from the M365 Pro that was released back in 2019, which is also an apparent upgrade from 2016’s M365. Released alongside the 1S and essential models of e-scooter under Xiaomi, the Mi Pro 2 strives to make its mark as a flagship that’s meant to beat western competitors off of charts and top ten lists. If you’re wondering if it succeeds in doing that, read on.

Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 E-Scooter: The Lowdown

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter comes with a 300 W motor powered by a 12400mAh/446Wh Li-ion battery, which offers entry-level speeds and a range that’s quite workable for its price and overall tier.

It has a climbing range of 70% max while only weighing around 31.3 lbs, which is undeniably quite heavy. This hefty Pro 2 e-scooter takes roughly 8.5 hours to charge and can carry only 220 lbs of maximum rider weight.

It’s not particularly a spectacle of a flagship, as other offerings easily knock it out of the park from the list of features, inclusions, and functionalities that come in the flagship tier. Nonetheless, Xiaomi makes up for a case that lets patrons and consumers opt for a quality electric scooter and a great price from a trusted brand, making the Mi Pro 2 a great option to weigh in when looking for something to ride on ASAP.

Performance Overview

If anything, the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter is far from being a beginner’s entry-level scooter. This mighty steed offers a convenient ride in the most strenuous conditions, taking what’s good from 2016’s M365 and the 2019 M365 Pro update to this 2020 release.

This scooter boasts a mix of power and aesthetics, with the two attributes both encapsulated in a shroud of safety and comfort. With this roaring ride, gone are the days of you simply cruising through well-asphalted roads slowly and without torque.

It is perfect for riders seeking a bit more thrill to their daily electric scooter rides, as the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 proves to be the ideal all-rounder that you may take anywhere you please.

On top of that, its build is more or less the same as its predecessors, with the addition of several improvements to make sure the release of the new model in the lineup is all worth it. For one, its range has definitely improved, boasting 28 miles, while also offering a powerful motor of 300W that can go up to 600W.

Its battery has improved as well, allowing for a longer range than most electric scooters offer. This bad boy has a 12400mAh/446Wh Li-ion battery --- with the higher voltage providing more power and torque, so you’re easily propelled while you ride.

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 is proud that it can now go up to 15.5 mph. It manages to catch up with specs of modern-day releases from its competitors. The lighting’s also good on this model as it offers a 1.1W LED headlight and a rear brake light along with some reflectors. Then there’s also the updated LCD Display that allows you to go through speed modes, the battery charge level, and current speed in a breeze.

But here’s the thing: this beauty comes at a price, and it’s not too shy of the fact that it has quite a hefty asking. Priced at £507 ($700), this Pro 2 electric scooter efficiently sets expectations and tells the crowd that it’s specifically for the ones looking for security in buying an electric scooter from quite a trusted brand. Not that it’s gatekeeping, but it just seems like the most logical way to go about it.

The number definitely can’t be bad, especially that this scooter can take on literally anything and anyone. Boasting 35 degrees (or 70%) gradeability, any obstruction or slope on the road would be an easy feat on this mighty steed.

Power and Performance

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter runs with a 300W motor that can go up to 600W in certain situations. This is why this scooter can quickly go up to 15.5 mph at its max speed.

With this torque amount, this e-scooter model easily climbs hill up to 70% (35 degrees worth of gradeability). Its upgraded design allows for great aesthetics. It also comes with better handling and comfort in riding, even if carrying up to 220 lbs worth of weight.

Construction

The bike’s design is also improved, with an aluminium frame that supports up to 220 lbs. it is rustproof and very rigid as well. The typical Xiaomi scooter’s layout stays here, offering a comfortable stance through and through as you ride.

It’s pretty reminiscent of the first M365 scooter. The only difference is that this one was made to be a bit more powerful. And it’s reflective once you compare the weight and price of the models.

Acceleration

This hot-rod of an electric scooter is known to go side-by-side along with cars on busy roads, boasting a top speed of 15.5 mph. It starts off with the pedestrian mode, giving the scooter 3 mph of speed that equates to walking.

Then there’s the standard mode, offering a top speed that’s a bit below 15.5 mph. To maximise the electric scooter’s power, you must go into sports mode and power through all 15.5 mph of torque it has.

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter performs well, especially when fully charged, as the throttle can give quite a lot of juice that feels a bit sensitive to the touch.

Top Speed

The Xiaomi Pro 2 electric scooter has a max-rated speed of up to 15.5 mph. Its updated build quality and performance boost, compared to the Mi Pro, makes it easy to power across almost any urban landscape, conditions permitting. Be wary of your surroundings, however, as this e-scooter is quite capable of keeping up with the other cars on the road.

Do note, though, that the road conditions, rider and gear weight, and weather conditions usually affect the numbers. Hence, the results would definitely vary for everyone.

Battery and Range

The Lithium-ion battery pack included in the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter offers 12400mAh/446Wh worth of specs. When comparing ranges and power, results usually differ--- especially that the offering of several speed modes ultimately changes the way the batteries discharge.

Case in point, the battery is expected to go up to 28 miles in range, while faster and more load-bearing modes would easily decrease this number.

Since its battery is quite big, charging may take a while. It takes about 8 to 8.5 hours to fully charge and be able to power through with all the power that it can provide, especially if you need to get to the 600W worth of torque.

Motor Configuration

The motor that comes with the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter is a 300W standard that can power up to 600W when situations require that the electric scooter would power through very heavy loads.

Brake System

Since the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter goes really fast, an appropriate type of brakes was also installed to keep riding fun and safe. This model offers both a mechanical rear brake and E-ABS regenerative front disk brake along with an additional electronic ABS (anti-lock braking system). This means that its rear wheel has a standard type of braking system.

In contrast, its front wheel manages to power through with a disk brake that makes use of kinetic energy to be reabsorbed back into the battery as an extra amount of charge to be used for later. It’s not a very uncommon technology when it comes to electric scooters, and we’re just glad it’s included with the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2.

Suspension

There’s no suspension installed on the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter. Thus, it mainly relies on its tyres for a smoother and more stable ride, getting rid of feeling the humps and bumps on the road.

Ride Quality

If you’re used to riding super-powerful electric scooters, then getting on the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 to figure out how much of a beast it is would be a cakewalk.

Some things to look forward to in adjusting to the e-scooter would be its more powerful torque and overall better range, which more or less has little to no learning curve when it comes to you managing to adapt.

Case in point, it rides and swerves smoothly as needed, but its height and wheel traction need a bit of getting used to.

Portability

This steed weighs 31.3 lbs, making it not particularly that portable. Imagine carrying this around, or worse, bringing it up in a building.

The good thing is that the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter locks in when you fold it as needed. This makes it more convenient to bring or pull it across roads or up along flights of stairs.

Cockpit

The display on the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 proves to be an improvement from its predecessors, as it shows speed, battery level, and speed mode.

Do note that the space for its display is not that spacious. That’s why Xiaomi decided to make it as straightforward, informative, and easy to understand as possible.

If anything, when the LED display feels lacking, there’s always the companion app that goes with the e-scooter. It features a bit more functionality, such as light control, cruise control, and extra safety features. Meanwhile, it also acts as an extended cockpit with a more concise and straightforward UI.

Lights

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 e-scooter is not too shy to light any path it crosses, especially with the speeds it can run on. There’s always the mandatory front and rear LED lighting --- two of the most common fixtures one can expect from electric scooters.

In addition, reflectors are also added to its frame, making sure there’s an extra layer of safety that protects the rider at night time.

Tyres

The 8.5” tyres on this electric scooter are far from being anything special. But, the good thing is that it manages to tame down the beast of an electric scooter while also levelling down its price point.

It’s your typical, run of the mill, pneumatic, and air-filled tyres that can keep you gripped to the road and a bit elevated.

On top of that, it’s the only source of suspension for this entire e-scooter, which makes it kind of annoying how Xiaomi is charging extra for it to be filled with puncture-resistant material.

Deck

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter’s deck is comparatively wider than its predecessors and with just enough grip installed to make sure you don’t fall off.

It’s super comfortable, stands on, and is not so scary even though it feels a bit taller. The grip on its deck ensures you don’t slip, especially at super high speeds.

Build Quality, Durability, and Support

The build of the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 is reminiscent of the M365 and M365 Pro, only adding the necessary upgrades to make it more powerful. Just like its predecessor, it’s tough and unwavering --- not to mention the fact that it’s a bit too heavy to carry around.

Nothing from the scooter comes loose nor breaks easily, as Xiaomi built this scooter to truly withstand the worst of conditions. It’s pretty apparent that they really went hard on this one to ensure it’s a heavy-duty electric scooter that can ride to where the rider’s heart would desire and its wheels would allow.

Sadly, customer support with Xiaomi is a hit or miss. Most people get their fix upon purchase. But, some struggle with warranty claims or just even getting a proper recognition of the problem in general.

Maintenance

There’s a bit more maintenance to go with the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter, especially if you take it to dirty roads and busy streets.

Aside from the occasional deep clean, just make sure to have the battery constantly charged, the tyre’s pressure always on point, and the tyre’s spike thickness to never go below anything unsafe.

Water Resistance

Only the underneath of the chassis and a part of the controller is waterproof. Yet, everything else is IP54 rated. This means it can’t really power through the water.

It’s built to withstand some water passing through it, but it’s not something expected to take a full dip. Take care of its motor and battery to never go near the water, and you’re good to go.

Known Issues

There are not many issues floating around on the internet regarding the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter’s overall performance.

Accessories

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter doesn’t really come with any accessories. So, you may want to check out Xiaomi’s official store to find out what you may add to this beautiful ride.

Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Scooter Review: Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 is a stellar electric scooter that provides all-terrain rideability in maximum safety and comfort. It may be one of the more expensive options in the Xiaomi line as it’s currently being sold for £507 ($700). Still, it’s a good (and relatively cheaper) choice compared to other electric scooters of the same tier available out there.

It’s a huge step up from the first version of the M365. But, we do wish it can also be offered with puncture-proof tyres without needing the extra money spent. The addition of a proper suspension and a better companion app should also be considered.

Overall, it’s an e-scooter that lives up to expectations and is perfect for people who like to cruise and power through beyond what the road can offer.
